THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THIS EVENT

The Dirty Dozen was created to bring good men together to share practical bushcraft and survival skills, knowledge and experiences gained through years of operating and teaching in challenging environments.

This gathering is about stepping away from the noise of everyday life, learning practical skills, embracing challenges, and building genuine connections with like minded men through shared experiences, conversations and time around the campfire.

THE EVENT

There is more to The Dirty Dozen than simply spending 3.5 days out bush.

This is an opportunity to learn new skills, challenge yourself, step outside your perceived comfort zone, and build confidence through practical hands on learning, teamwork and shared experiences with other men.

This is not about proving yourself against others. It is about showing up, contributing to the group, learning from each other, and leaving with greater confidence, capability and connection.

The Dirty Dozen brings together men who value personal growth, practical skills, community and the opportunity to become better men, fathers, husbands and members of their community.

WHO IS IT FOR?

The Dirty Dozen Gathering is for men of reasonable fitness who want to expand their knowledge, capability and confidence in bushcraft and survival skills.

You do not need to be an experienced outdoorsman. You simply need to be willing to learn, participate, challenge yourself and contribute to the group.

The gathering will be adapted to suit the abilities and experience levels of those attending, ensuring everyone is challenged while being supported.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

Throughout the gathering we will explore key bushcraft and survival skills including:

• Understanding fear, stress responses and how our body reacts under pressure
• Developing awareness of our own responses and learning how knowledge can help overcome fear and uncertainty
• Understanding the priorities of survival
• Sourcing and purifying water from different sources
• Building emergency shelters using natural materials, practical knots, lashings and cordage
• Creating fire using multiple ignition methods
• Understanding food sources, including basic foraging and bush foods
• Practical rescue techniques and emergency signalling
• Orientation by day and night
• Knife skills and safe tool use
• Campcraft and bush living skills
• Working effectively as part of a team in challenging conditions

The Dirty Dozen Gathering will challenge some people physically and mentally. The ability to work as part of a team, support others and contribute to the group is essential.

I look forward to welcoming you around my campfire.

Rick J Petersen.

*Disclaimer: No wildlife or native animals will be trapped or harmed during this event. All snare/trap skills will be practiced for educational emergency scenarios only.
