WHEN: 11th -14th APRIL 2024

DURATION: 3.5 Days

LOCATION: IVO Sunshine Coast

AGE: 16 years and over

THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THIS EVENT

As modern-day culture connects us more and more through technology, we become less and less connected to ourselves and the traditional knowledge and skills our elders carried with them. This event is designed to share and reteach these important but forgotten bush craft and survival skills, through sharing my own knowledge as an ex-special forces soldier, along with that of some local ‘wise’ and skilled women in their fields. Many skills of which our own indigenous Australians still utilise today.

THE EVENT

This event is much more than 3.5 days spent in the bush. We will utilise old knowledge, along with modern technology, working with nature to assist us with the prioritisation of survival needs. There will be a focus on building connection, sharing knowledge and some campfire conversations and storytelling.

WHO IS IT FOR?

This is for any women of a reasonable fitness levels who wants to upskill, learn new skills, connect with like minds, disconnect from the modern world and immerse in nature. I will follow the lead of the group and tailor the experience to suit the skills and experience for each individual group. You do not have to be a seasoned outdoors-women, but one who is ready to be empowered with the skills and knowledge of bush craft and survival.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

We will focus on some key skills in bush craft and survival including:

• Acquiring drinkable water from a potentially hostile environment, filtration, sterilisation collection and carriage

• Methods of constructing an emergency shelter to protect you from the potential threats of the environment by working with it

• Non-conventional modern and primitive fire lighting methods

• Understanding where food sits as a priority along with how and where to forage for it including edible bush foods and weeds

• Gaining a greater understanding of the psychology of fear, and phobias and how we can overcome them

• How to initiate a rescue plan from the ground where you may be lost or injured

• Essential functional knots, lashings and frapping

• How to use, select and sharpen a variety of cutting-edge tools out bush

• Navigation by day and night, using the sun, signs in nature, the stars and other celestial bodies

• Self-defence

Along with these and other campcraft skills, there will be great conversations and campfire cooking.

“I look forward to you joining me around the campfire! “

Rick J Petersen.
